Senate Community Affairs References Committee Inquiry into the extent and nature of poverty in Australia
ERA welcomes this opportunity to contribute to the Community Affairs Reference Committee’s inquiry. In a country as rich as Australia, no one should live in poverty. And yet millions of people do. Left unchecked, climate change will further entrench poverty and patterns of inequality here and across the globe. Women and girls are particularly vulnerable as they spend more time than men in unpaid work and care, adversely experience the gender pay gap and earn less superannuation. When Australian governments work to improve the economic security and wellbeing of women, they improve the economic security and wellbeing of all citizens.
