Maternity Leave (Commonwealth Employees) Act Review 2022
ERA has made a submission to the Australian Public Service Commissioner’s review of the almost 50 year old APS Maternity Leave Act. We’re calling for changes to the legislation including gender neutral language, recognising the diversity of families and the need to redistribute unpaid care between men and women, although the use of more inclusive language must not undermine space for women to recover from birth, bond with their baby and to breastfeed. We also asked for additional leave for single mothers, payment of superannuation on leave and breastfeeding support in the workplace following a soft return to work. Check out our submission here.
