Analysing the Gap Policy Paper
ERA is pleased to launch Analysing the Gap: Opportunities to improve gender equality in Australia’s public policy processes. Public policy research has established that the outcomes and effects of government policies are gendered and consideration of the gendered effects of policies can be a powerful means to promote gender equality as well as delivering more efficient policymaking. A common technique used in this process is Gender Responsive Budgeting (GRB). Australia currently has no GRB mechanism despite considerable domestic pressure on gender policy, repeated international criticism for our failures to meet our commitments under CEDAW and a pressing need for efficiency and effective targeting of populations in policy implementation in light of the economic and social effects of COVID-19.
