A survey of women's experience of health services was conducted in 2011, with over 750 online and paper responses recorded. Thank you to every woman who completed the survey, or helped spread the word about the project. Your support will help us better advocate for the diversity of women's health needs.

A report on the survey results, and the survey questions, are available for download below.

The key finding from the survey is that women want to be treated with respect by health care services. This includes cultural sensitivity, sexual identity awareness, respect for different concepts of health, and understanding of the impact of women's diverse social circumstances.

National Disability Insurance Scheme to meet needs of WOMEN!

From November 27 – December 3 2011 the ACT Women’s Centre for Health Matters is supporting the Every Australian Counts campaign’s ‘Spread the Word Week’.

The Women’s Centre for Health Matters have released an article exploring why changing the disability support system through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is so important for women with disabilities in the ACT - and in Australia.

You can find this article on the home page of the Women’s Centre for Health Matter or HIT REPLY to this email to have the document sent directly to your email; box!

For more information see the Every Australian Counts campaign, information about the National Disability Insurance Scheme from FaHCSIA and the Women’s Centre for Health Matters.

Please feel free to circulate this message and join the Every Australian Counts campaign to continue spreading the word about why the disability support system must change to meet the gendered needs of women with disability.

International GYN Aware Day

Did you know on 10 September it was International GYN Aware Day?  Many women with gynaecological health conditions may feel very alone. They often suffer in silence, afraid of what they don't know, and feeling that there is not somewhere to go for more information.

International GYN Aware Day aims to bring professionals and health consumers together, to increase gynaecological and sexual health awareness, share knowledge and experiences with the community, and provide information on specific gynaecological issues in an open and friendly forum.

ERA encourages you to have a look at the vibrant website of GAIN - Gynaecological Awareness Information Network. Share this resource through your networks and encourage your friends and family to talk about gynaecological health matters!
